Peacemaker was met with much critical acclaim and is on track for a second season. Not to mention, James Gunn has confirmed that he’s working on multiple DCEU spin-offs. Now, it appears that the success of Peacemaker has birthed yet another spin-off. Variety reports that HBO Max is talking to Viola Davis to reprise her role as Amanda Waller in a new series with Davis as the lead star and the executive producer. The report states that Christal Henry, who previously wrote 2019’s Watchmen, will write the script for the HBO Max spin-off. John Cena’s Peacemaker made his live-action debut in The Suicide Squad and was one of the highlights of James Gunn’s first DCEU film. Six months later, Peacemaker was making headlines as HBO Max’s first DCEU spin-off show and easily one of the cinematic universe’s most successful outings yet. The show, which focuses on Smith’s mission to eliminate an alien threat from the face of the planet, sees Davis’ Waller play an important behind-the-scenes role as the director of A.R.G.U.S. Waller is the one who orders her daughter, Danielle Brooks’ Leota Adebayo, to keep an eye on Smith. With Adebayo going public with her mother’s borderline-illegal extracurricular work with Task Force X, the spin-off will focus on what happens next for the now-disgraced high-level government operative. In addition to Davis and Henry, Gunn has also reportedly signed on as one of the show’s executive producers. Warner Bros. Discovery company will roll out several spin-offs over the next few years on HBO Max. One of the biggest ones revolves around Colin Farrell’s Penguin, who played a minor role in Matt Reeves’ The Batman. In addition, HBO Max is developing Dune: The Sisterhood, a prequel to last year’s Dune, as well as a predecessor to Stephen King’s It. Fans can also look forward to the spin-offs to Sherlock Holmes as well as newly-instated CEO, David Zaslav, and his search for a Kevin Feige-like figure to overhaul the DC Extended Universe.
