Scott Silver wrote the 2019 blockbuster Joker, which earned him an Oscar nomination. The movie went on to gross over $1 billion at the global box office and earned the star, Joaquin Phoenix, the Oscar award for best actor. Silver is currently penning the sequel to that movie titled Joker: Folie à Deux which has a 2024 release date. He’s also worked on screenplays for The Fighter (which also earned him an Oscar nomination), 8 Mile, and The Finest Hours. Malcolm Spellman created and served as head writer on Falcon and the Winter Soldier. He is also penning the script for the fourth installment in the Captain America series, Captain America: New World Order, which will begin filming next year. What’s more is that Spellman has production experience having served as a producer on Empire, Truth Be Told, and Bel-Air. Matt Mixon is the greenhorn of the trio with relatively little experience. He is responsible for the acclaimed 2017 rock documentary Yesterday was Everything. In a statement shared with the Hollywood Reporter, Silver had this to say: Todd McFarlane had penned a script and was also set to direct the movie. However, with the recent turns the movie’s development has taken, he admits to taking a step back for “A-list directors.” Blumhouse started development on the movie in 2017 with Jamie Foxx starring as the antihero. Jeremy Renner was also cast as Max “Twitch” Williams. While Foxx is still attached to the project, Renner’s involvement is no longer a given. Fans of the comics will be pleased with the latest development and will be eagerly awaiting news on a director for the reboot, which was originally adapted into a movie in 1997.
