The good news is that the upcoming Suicide Squad game by Rocksteady Studios is “nearly finished.” The bad news is that both of the studio’s co-founders are stepping down from their posts at the end of the year to begin a “new adventure in gaming.” Sefton Hill and Jamie Walker founded Rocksteady Studios in 2004. Both have played a huge role in the company’s success since, specifically, the Arkham games. Hill, in particular, was the director of all the studio’s Arkham games, which went on to receive critical acclaim. Hill is also the director of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. It’s unclear who will replace Hill as the upcoming game’s director but the individual will have massive shoes to fill. Sefton Hill and Jamie Walker will be replaced by Nathan Burlow and Darius Sadeghian as the Studio Director and Studio Product Director, respectively.

— Rocksteady Studios (@RocksteadyGames) October 26, 2022 As we’ve already mentioned, the pair’s departure will leave a looming shadow over the rest of Rocksteady. Batman: Arkham Asylum is widely considered as a monumental game that marked the new age of licensed games. Its sequel, Arkham Asylum, managed to up the ante even further, landing itself a spot on not just one of the best superhero games of all time, but one of the best video games in history. Although Arkham Asylum wasn’t as good as its predecessors, partly due to a botched launch, it was still a fitting conclusion that wrapped up the story that started in Arkham Asylum. It will be interesting to see what Rocksteady does next after Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. More importantly, we’re curious to find out what Hill and Walker will work on and if they’ll continue to work together going forward. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is technically a sequel to Rocksteady’s Arkham games as it is set in the same universe. It’s scheduled to launch next year following a delay. It will mark the end of a seven-year wait for Rocksteady’s latest game.
