The few GTA Online players who are wreaking wanton mayhem on Los Santos on the PS3 and Xbox 360 will only have a couple of months left to make the most out of their time in Los Santos unless they switch to a different platform.

When Is the GTA Online on PS3 and Xbox 360 Shutdown?

If you’re playing Grand Theft Auto Online on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, you’ll only have until December 16 to log in. After December 16, Rockstar Games will shut down and remove stat tracking on the Rockstar Games Social Club for GTA Online on the older platforms. Rockstar Games also added that players will no longer be able to purchase Shark Cash cards for the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of GTA Online after September 15. While it is sad that GTA Online will no longer be available on the PS3 and Xbox 360 later this year, Rockstar clarified that this will not affect the availability of GTA’s single-player story mode on the said consoles. According to Rockstar, this decision was made to give the company more time to focus on providing support for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC versions of GTA Online. It’s also worth noting that Rockstar is currently preparing for the next-gen version of GTA V and GTA Online. On top of this, the latter is expected to launch as a standalone title along with the next-gen version of GTA V. PS3 and Xbox 360 owners will have more to worry about than just Grand Theft Auto online as well. Rockstar will also be dropping support and website stat tracking for Max Payne 3 and L.A. Noire on September 16. Even if this is the inevitable price of progress, Rockstar shutting down GTA Online, Max Payne 3, and L.A. Noire on older consoles marks the end of an era. GTA Online launched on the PS3 and Xbox 360 in October 2013. The game overcame launch setbacks to end up becoming a huge financial success for Rockstar Games. It wouldn’t be wrong to say that its success is the reason why Rockstar Games has less of an incentive to release GTA 6 as soon as possible.
