The classic grid-based combat system that the series has come to be known for returns, but with an addition of a new hero summoning mechanic. The summonable heroes include all the heroes from the previous Fire Emblem games, including Marth and Cecilia.

The main story revolves around the protagonist with blue-and-red colored hair, who wakes up after thousands of years, unaware of himself or his whereabouts. From the announcement trailer, it seems that the protagonist belongs to a race of divine dragons who need to team up with other heroes in order to collect Emblem Rings and defeat the Fell Dragon before he brings about the destruction of the world. Fire Emblem: Three Houses was one of the best games of 2019, thanks to the narrative direction and the novel storytelling of the game. The relationships also matter in the Fire Emblem series. While we’ve observed massive graphical improvements in the announcement trailer, it is still uncertain whether the game will be able to surpass the high expectations of balancing the staple combat mechanic and storytelling coming from Three Houses. The standard version of Fire Emblem Engage is scheduled to release on January 20, 2023. Moreover, players can also order a Divine Edition with a bunch of collectible items for long-time dedicated fans. You can pre-order the standard version but cannot currently order the Divine Edition, but it is expected to go live anytime during 2023.
