Beginner Tips to Follow

The MyCareer mode allows you to build and design your own character. Honing your strength and earning a good Teammate grade gives you better opportunities to earn endorsements and finally get drafted. Even though Idris Elba will start as your coach, you will soon leave the club and earn your way to the NBA alone. Get endorsements, accept salary offers, and get drafted so you can participate in larger leagues. An important factor to consider when getting drafted is your Teammate grade. Having a high Teammate grade affects your chances of getting drafted significantly. Below are some tips for people new to the MyCareer mode, how to progress through the story, and ensure that you get drafted for an NBA team.

Avoid losing the ball. If possible, try to pass instead, as a good pass and assist increases your Teammate grade significantly. Your first draft challenge game will be an invitational. Try to earn at least a C+ or above to get a good first assessment and increase your chances of getting drafted. Play around your strength. NBA 2K20 does not allow an all-around player to score consistent threes but who is also a powerful center.  Play around your strengths and practice your skill according to the MyPlayer you built. Your summer league games and team tryout games affect your drafting chances more than the NBA Combine. No need to sprint all the time. Your stamina will drain fast, so make sure to only sprint when necessary. Always use Team practice. This way, you can unlock the drills you want during practice. Attending Team practice will help unlock the Jump Shot Creator. Master the basics. Mastering how to dribble, pass, defend, and shoot is essential before starting any matches. Always practice and learn the mechanics in-depth. Choose the team you want by looking at their rosters. Teams that need your position are more likely to draft you. Avoid fouls at all costs. Committing two fouls will get you pulled from the first quarter and the second quarter if you commit four fouls. Play with your team. Study their playstyle and know how to fit your playstyle with theirs. Equip your badges to increase your skills. Equipping appropriate badges can help boost your stats. Don’t skip out on the defense. Shooting and flashy plays can help your team score but not win. Learning how to defend properly can help your team win the game.

Getting Drafted

Depending on your performance, you will get placed on six different options:

Solid 1st Round Late First Round Early 2nd Round Mid 2nd Round Late 2nd Round Undrafted

Aiming for the Solid 1st round is the most optimal because your game salary would be higher, and you can earn more VC. Getting a Solid 1st round draft gives you 800 to 1000 VC per game, letting you improve your player more. To get the best chance at getting drafted for the Solid 1st Round, you need to perform great on different draft challenges. You would also need to play through the different training sessions during the preludes. Getting a B in full in-game scrimmage will help increase your stock. The draft combine and tryouts are other challenges you need to perform well to get to the first-round draft.

The Invitational

The first draft challenge in NBA 2K20 is you playing in an Invitational Game. It would help if you got a high Teammate grade to increase your chances of getting drafted for a team. A grade of C+ and above is optimal for your first assessment. Always take note of the tips above, and avoid making aggressive plays if it would mean you lose the ball. A good pass and assist would increase your teammate grade a lot.

The Draft Combine

The Draft Combine is another challenge that will greatly affect your draft assessment. You will have to go through different shooting challenges and drills. The important factor to watch out for in the shooting challenges is to get the meter as close as you can to green. To increase your stock, you should aim to get a three-star on the following tests:

Vertical Jump Running Jump Sprint Sidestep sprint Deadlift

Before doing the tests, you get at least two practice attempts. If you are not used to Quick-time events, use this practice attempts to get the timing correctly. As you get closer to the drafting, you will see your draft standing and the amount of VC you will get throughout your career.  Always check your draft placement to see how you are fairing well.

Summer League

The Summer League is a series of games that will determine the teams interested in your abilities. Your performance in each game plays an important factor in your draft assessment. There are about four games in the Summer League, and you must play well in all of them if you want to get drafted first round. If you are playing to get to the team of your dreams, you should take the summer League games seriously. A key factor in performing well in the Summer League is not always shooting when the opportunity shows itself. Make sure that you are only taking smart shots, and instead focus on great ball handling. Losing the ball will decrease your grade significantly. If it comes down to it, make great passes instead. You do not always have to be shooting threes; instead, become a playmaker for your team and drive the enemy to make aggressive plays that you can punish.

Choosing your Team

Although you cannot directly choose your team, you will influence the team that will pick you. You would be able to pick three teams that you want to do a workout for. While most people know which team they want to go to, some teams are better suited to your position. Choosing these teams increases your chances of winning, and the teams in bold are the best fit for your position.

Point Guard

Chicago Bulls Detroit Pistons LA Lakers Minnesota Timberwolves Orlando Magic

Shooting Guard

Atlanta Hawks Detroit Pistons Brooklyn Nets Milwaukee Bucks Minnesota Timberwolves Philadelphia 76ers Toronto Raptors

Small Forward

Atlanta Hawks Detroit Pistons, Denver Nuggets Indiana Pacers Miami Heat Oklahoma City Thunder Philadelphia 76ers Portland Trailblazers Sacramento Kings Toronto Raptors

Power Forward

Boston Celtics Brooklyn Nets Miami Heat Portland Trailblazers Utah Jazz

Center

Atlanta Hawks Boston Celtics Golden State Warriors LA Clippers  LA Lakers Miami Heat Sacramento Kings

These are the teams that are currently in need of each position. The teams highlighted in bold are perfect fits for that role. However, these are just recommendations for choosing your team and by no means should be followed religiously. The following teams would greatly benefit and increase their chances of winning if you choose their team according to your position.

Summary

To get drafted Solid First Round, you must put in an extreme amount of practice and effort from the beginning. Ensure you perform well and achieve a high teammate grade during scrimmages and Summer League to increase your stock. The Draft Combine is a set of tests and challenges you have to complete to improve your draft assessment. Getting three-stars on the test is optimal to increase your chances of getting drafted for the first round. You do not always have to shoot the ball. Instead, make smart plays and increase your teammate grade by passing the ball and assisting. Keep on practicing and master your fundamentals before going through the games, so you have a good idea of what to do. Your draft option affects your salary and the amount of VC that you will get each game, so always check your draft placement to see how you are doing. And lastly, picking a team that needs your role will greatly increase your chance of winning.
