Momoa apologizes for the four-year wait for Aquaman 2
2018’s Aquaman was a big deal. It wasn’t just Aquaman’s first feature film, but it also made history as the highest-grossing film based on a DC Comics character ever. With a $1.148 billion worldwide take, a sequel to the film was all but guaranteed. Unfortunately, due to several factors, including the COVID-19 pandemic, it will take a little over four years for the next Aquaman movie to drop, which the film’s star, Momoa, went ahead and apologized for in the first teaser for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. In the recently-released behind-the-scenes clip, we see Momoa return as Curry in a montage featuring both on-set footage and movie scenes. In addition to glimpses of Momoa’s Aquaman in action, the BTS reel also featured Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s Black Manta and Amber Heard, who, as confirmed earlier this year, is back as Mera. Patrick Wilson is also set to make his return as Atlantis’ former king, Orm, alongside Temuera Morrison’s Tom Curry with Game of Thrones’ Pilou Asbæk joining in a yet-unconfirmed role. Meanwhile, several members of the creative team from the first movie are going to return as well, including James Wan and David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, who are back as the film’s director and writer, respectively. As previously mentioned, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is set to premiere on December 16, 2022. It’s going to be the last DC film for 2022, which will start with Matt Reeves’ The Batman in March, Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam in July, and Ezra Miller’s The Flash in November.
