DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn said that some of the rumored cancelations were true while others were only partly true. However, he didn’t reveal which projects were axed and which are being reworked. One character that is central to DC that fans have been asking about is Henry Cavill’s Superman. The actor recently announced that he is coming back as the Man of Steel after a brief cameo in the recent Black Adam movie. Cavill recently left his role as Geralt of Rivia in the Netflix series The Witcher shortly after announcing his return as Superman. The two are however unrelated as he had a different reason for leaving the hit Netflix show. James Gunn had an opportunity to interact with fans on Twitter after the director posted a tweet to celebrate the 44th anniversary of Christopher Reeves’ Superman movie from 1978. Fans got to ask some questions regarding the future of the DC Universe which Gunn gamely answered. “Hey James, please tell us if we are gonna see a Superman?” a fan asked Gunn on the social media platform. “We’ve been starved of the greatest comic book character on the big screen for ages!” “Yes of course,” Gunn replied to the question. “Superman is a huge priority, if not the biggest priority.”
— James Gunn (@JamesGunn) December 10, 2022 While the head of DC Studios didn’t reveal when fans would be seeing Superman again, he did reveal that it is DC’s top priority. Fans will surely breathe a sigh of relief as the past week has been chaotic at DC after the cancelation of Wonder Woman 3. Patty Jenkins reportedly walked away from Wonder Woman 3 as she refused to change the story she wrote. Rumors began to circulate that Man of Steel 2, Batman 2, and Black Adam sequel are in jeopardy of being canned. Black Adam in particular has been the target of speculation, as the movie failed to meet the blockbuster expectations of fans and industry experts. Sources have reported the movie is going to lose money, but Dwayne Johnson announced that the film is expected to turn a modest profit. James Gunn also took time to debunk the rumor that he “does not like Henry Cavill.” When asked about this, the director replied “Sure: false.” This gives Henry Cavill fans some hope that the actor will be returning as Superman.
— James Gunn (@JamesGunn) December 10, 2022 Gunn has promised DC Comics fans he and co-CEO Peter Safran are going to be “giving these characters and the stories the time and attention they deserve.” Hopefully, we will hear more from Gunn in the coming days about their plans for DC. There have been reports that he and Safran are set to meet Warner Bros. execs this week to present plans for the future of the DC Universe. Fingers crossed, they’ll get a chance to talk about a potential Batman Beyond project with the directors of the canceled Batgirl movie.
