Taking the helm on The Division: Heartland is Red Storm Entertainment, the same studio that worked on the Original Tom Clancy games. Although The Division: Heartland is a spin-off, the game will be a standalone release separate from The Division. Ubisoft has given it a 2021-2022 release window for Windows PCs, “the cloud”, as well as consoles, although we’re presuming that Ubisoft is talking about the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X.
What Do We Know About The Division: Heartland?
Beyond the vague release window, platforms, and the fact that it’s going to be a standalone free-to-play title, Ubisoft has yet to offer any clue to what The Division: Heartland is all about. However, the description should be enough to get fans excited. Ubisoft describes Heartland as an “all-new perspective on the universe in a new setting.” For those who are interested, Ubisoft is allowing players to sign up for a chance at joining early playtests. As exciting as news of a The Division spin-off is, Ubisoft did not stop at that. In the same announcement, Ubisoft confirmed the Heartland is just a part of its plans to expand The Division brand across multiple media. Yes. The Division is going to see more than just a spin-off title. Ubisoft confirmed that The Division movie on Netflix is still in development. Both Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Chastain have been confirmed for starring roles in the Netflix movie. In addition to the Netflix movie and Heartland, a new original novel set following the events of The Division 2 and a new mobile game is also coming soon. Ubisoft did not talk much about the latter, but did promise to reveal more information about the mobile The Division game “at a later date.” Ubisoft promised that new content is finally coming to The Division 2 later this 2021 as well. This includes a new game mode and methods for players to level up their agents. Ubisoft claims that these changes will help improve the variety and viability of different builds in the game. With that said, it’s interesting to see just how much support Ubisoft is pouring towards The Division. It seems like it was only yesterday that many believed that it was set to fail. However, since arriving in March 2016, the developers, Massive Entertainment, have worked hard at improving the game and giving players a reason to stay longer and for others to come back. Due to the first game’s success, Massive Entertainment ended up releasing the sequel, The Division 2, in March 2019. March 2020’s Warlords of New York expansion would set the record for the highest number of monthly active users in The Division 2. According to Ubisoft, Ubisoft Bucharest is also stepping in to help Massive Entertainment with the upcoming The Division 2 update. We can presume that Ubisoft Bucharest is helping because Massive Entertainment has a lot going on at the moment. In addition to providing new content for The Division 2, Massive Entertainment has at least two confirmed projects under active development. This includes an Avatar video game and an open-world Star Wars game.
