According to the same trailer from Sony that confirmed FF16’s six-month exclusivity period, Forspoken will be exclusive to the PS5 for two years after it launches on January 24. This means that it will be available on other console platforms on January 24, 2025. However, you don’t have to worry too much if you don’t have a PS5. Forspoken will be available on the PC at launch as well, which is to say that this is Sony’s way of blocking Forspoken from the Xbox Series S/X. Interestingly enough, it’s still unclear if Final Fantasy 16 will come to the Xbox Series S/X as well. Although Final Fantasy 15 was available on the Xbox One at launch in 2016, all of the Final Fantasy games released since have been exclusive to the PlayStation platform. Case in point, Final Fantasy 7 Remake is available exclusively on the PS4. Its PS5 upgrade, Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Intergrade, took six months to go from Sony’s flagship console to the PC. The uber-popular MMORPG, Final Fantasy 14, is also not available on Xbox consoles but Phil Spencer did mention that he’s working on making the Xbox port happen. If it’s any consolation, the Crisis Core remake will launch on all available gaming platforms, including the Xbox One and the Nintendo Switch, on December 13. The Xbox is in dire need of more games, JRPGs included. An infusion of Final Fantasy games would’ve done well for its relatively thin library. Hopefully, Microsoft can find a way to solve this problem soon.
