Where is The Penguin going to fit in the Batman timeline?
First off, don’t think that The Batman is part of the DC Extended Universe. Matt Reeves’ take on the Dark Knight, which sees Robert Pattinson take on the rule of the caped crusader, exists within its universe. So, we shouldn’t expect to start seeing anyone else from the DCEU make their way to The Batman once the movie premieres on March 4, 2022. As for The Penguin, it’s effectively a prequel to The Batman. Since The Batman takes place in Bruce Wayne’s sophomore year terrorizing the denizens of Gotham City, The Penguin will explore the years before this happened. Although the TV show will revolve around Farrell’s portrayal of the facially scarred Gotham villain, we can expect a couple of several connections with The Batman. As of the moment, Matt Reeves’ The Batman will act as the springboard for an entire movie franchise composed of at least two sequels and another spin-off series focusing on the Gotham City Police Department. According to Variety, the upcoming HBO Max series will see Colin Farrell star and come board as the film’s executive producer. Lauren LeFranc (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D) will reportedly write the script for The Penguin. Matt Reeves’ The Batman is already pulling in tons of compliments from audiences and critics alike. It’s shaping up to be a worthy cornerstone for a planned franchise. One of the biggest reasons for all the praise thrown to The Batman is the Golden Globe winner’s take on the iconic Batman villain. Colin Farrell looks unrecognizable as Penguin in the few The Batman stills that we’ve seen of him so far. It will be interesting to see just how different Farrell’s Penguin will look in his earlier years and what life was like in Gotham before Batman arrived. In other DC news, rumors are going around that an animated adaptation of “Crisis on Infinite Earths” is coming soon.
