Employees reportedly held “funeral screenings” to pay tribute to the film. But, aside from that, we haven’t really heard much about the Batgirl movie and those involved in it, until now. Apparently, the directors of the project are still open to working with Warner Bros. Discovery and the DC Universe with a meeting with the new DC co-head, James Gunn, already in the books.

According to an interview between The Hollywood Reporter and the directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, The Suicide Squad director reached out to them after the cancelation of Batgirl and offered his support. After his promotion, Arbi and Fallah claim that the “meetings are in the books.” Furthermore, the directors revealed that they haven’t shut their doors on another project in the DCU, “on the condition that the movie comes out.” For what it’s worth, Arbi doesn’t seem too down about what happened. In his words, “this is something that never happened before, so we’ve kind of become part of movie history without even trying!”. Time appears to have healed the wounds left by Warner Bros.’s decision to drop Batgirl at the 11th hour. But, the fact that the partners still want to work on the DC Universe is a good sign. Perhaps the decision to bring in Gunn as the co-head is inspiring other creatives to sign up and become part of a more cohesive future of the DCU. Its source material, DC Comics, has an expansive library of unique characters that’s ripe for the picking for any director worthy of being chosen to be a part of the DCU going forward. Fingers crossed, the Batgirl directors will circle back to the DCU soon. The duo, collectively known as Adil & Bilall, most recently directed two episodes for the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s TV show, Ms. Marvel. They might reunite with Martin Lawrence and Will Smith to do Bad Boys 4, which Sony and Martin Lawrence insists is still happening. In other news, Gunn recently revealed he’s already given his input for the upcoming slate of films. However, the “new slate” won’t start until after the premiere of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom next year.
